As some readers may be aware, I recently left Wild Horse FM and will no longer be broadcasting my weekly bowls reports on Saturday mornings.

However, I will be continuing my weekly bowls column here on southburnett.com.au.

Clubs can continue to email me their reports and news as usual, and I’ll be delighted to include them in my weekly regional bowls wrap-up.

This last week gone was a particularly busy one at Kingaroy Bowls Club, so it leads this week’s bulletin:

Kingaroy news:

Kingaroy had a very big day last Sunday – Dave and Beryl’s day.

Dave and Beryl Woods are long-time members of Kingaroy Bowls Club, and the degree of respect and regard in which the couple are held was shown by the wonderful attendance of bowlers.

Dave and Beryl organised the conditions of play.

The terms were that the winners and runners up were the teams with the lowest winning scores, while third place went to the team with the lowest losing score.

Due to inclement weather, though, the day’s play was cut a bit short.

Results:

  • Winners: Dave Woods, Bob Bougoure, Peggy Robinson and Diane Reed – Winning score 12
  • Runners Up: Fred Keding, Eric Ford and Bob Robinson – Winning score 13
  • Third: Marj Moore, Felipe Munoz and Beryl Woods – Lowest losing score 4

On Wednesday, in the Social:

  • Merv Wolski and Diane Reed def. Gladys Slatter and Ben Pratap 25-16

Thursday was Stan Aboud Day, and it was also a big one. Stan is another long-time member of Kingaroy Bowls Club and he generously sponsored the weekly triples competition.

Although no longer a regular playing member, he is still a regular visitor to the club.

Stan set the conditions for play.

The winners being determined by the Closest Winning Margin; runners up the team with the closest losing margin; while third place went to the team with the biggest winning margin.

Results:

  • Winners: Col McBride, Barry O’Brien, Errol Dionysius – Winning margin 1
  • Runnerts Up: Bevan Askew, Paul Marychurch and Val Jeppesen – Losing margin 1
  • Third: Des Richards, Greg Pogson and John Coppard – Winning margin 11

Kilcoy news

The men’s Club Championships Triples Final was played last Sunday, and it attracted interest when Jeff Welden, Noel Lanes and Tony Gray defeated Peter Bell, Max Morrow and Kevin Preece 25-17.

On Tuesday it was Mystery Trophy Day, and it turned out to be a very good day with many trophies handed out

In Touchers, it was Margaret Worrall, Nelly Herbert, Noel Lanes, Jenny Edwards, Flora Kelly and Liz Frawley, Ian Smith and Ernie Vicary.

The winners and runners up on the day were decided from a draw.

First prize went to the lowest winning margin: Bert Christie and Noel Lanes with a 2 point win against Jenny Edwards and Jeff Welden 27-25.

Second prize went to Harold Alford, Margaret Worrall and Fay Vicary with the lowest winning score 20-11 against Nelly Herbert, Kelly Charters and Col Ferguson.

Other results:

  • Brett Kelly and Ian Smith def. Pauline Lawson, Ernie Herbert and Ernie Vicary 24-10
  • Bill Edwards, Flora Kelly and Vallna Wells def. John Worrall, Wendy Smith and Liz Frawley 22-9

Next Tuesday, the club is back to Jackpot Bowls, and it be starting off at $44.

And the next Star of the Green match will be Liz Frawley against Margaret Worrall.

Nanango News

In Scroungers on Friday of last week, Greg Pogson at it again (94 pts). Josh Fisher was next best with 86 pts.

An in Tuesday’s Men’s Social with conditions of play four for a win and one for an end:

  • Cec Bracken and Ed Haycock – 24 pts
  • Bob Hall, John McConnell and Jim Fowler – 20 pts
  • Colin and Ben Pratap – 17 pts
  • Trevor George and Allan Ward – 13 pts
  • Bob Hammond, Lew Saunders and Kevin Profke – 12 pts
  • Bevan and Mike Wyvill – 10 pts
