South Burnett residents have been invited to enter an art competition to help mark Mental Health Week.

The competition is being co-ordinated by the South Burnett Community Mental Health Service and is free for anyone to enter.

Entries will be judged on their relevance to the competition theme, as well as their impact, originality and inspirational quality.

Service Integration Coordinator Megan Theobald said the theme of this year’s competition had been chosen by the local Consumer and Carer Advisory Group.

“The theme this year is ‘Create Your Journey’ and we have received several entries already,” she said.

“The competition will be judged by local artist Megg Cullen and the winners will be announced at the exhibition opening night at the Kingaroy Art Gallery on Friday, October 3.

“Prizes for the winners have been donated by the local Lions Club.”

Entries must be submitted to South Burnett Community Health by 2:00pm on Friday, September 26.

They will remain on display at the Kingaroy Art Gallery until October 23.

Mental Health Week is held across Australia in October each year to coincide with World Mental Health Day on October 10.

This year, Mental Health Week runs from October 5-12.

“The aim of the competition is to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing, and to provide a creative outlet and a social event for the community centred on mental health, “ Ms Theobald said.
