The Yallakool Tourist Park on the foreshores of Bjelke-Petersen Dam will be packed with hundreds of keen fishermen over the South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show long weekend.
They’ll be competing in the annual BP Dam Austackle Inland Family Fishing Classic for $3500 in cash prizes along with many other prizes of goods on offer, thanks to the competition’s many sponsors.
The competition will kick off at 6:00am on Saturday, October 4, and conclude with final weigh-ins around 1:00pm on Sunday, October 5.
Competitors will be trying to snag three specially tagged fish, all supplied by Hanwood Fish Hatchery.
One of the fish will be carrying a $2000 cash prize; another $1000; and the third fish will net one lucky fisherman $500.
As well as the tagged fish, there’ll be many other prizes on offer for the biggest fish caught in all the competition’s different classes.
And at just $20 for a senior entry, $5 for a junior entry (ages 5 to 12) or $35 for a family entry (2 adults + 2 juniors) – plus all the fish you can catch – there’s a weekend of great fishing to be had for anyone who likes to wet a line.
Entries in the competition will be taken at the lake from 5:00pm onwards on Friday, October 3. All entries will go into a draw to win a Fishing Kayak worth $1300.
The Yallakool Tourist Park will also have all types of on-site accommodation on offer too – anything from powered and unpowered camping sites through to bunkhouse and cabin accommodation.
Non-fishermen can also enjoy many other South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show activities which will be held nearby throughout the weekend.
