The McDonald’s South Burnett Junior Football competition wrapped up on Saturday with an all-Murgon grand final in Cadets and an all-Kingaroy grand final in U12/13s.
The Cadets clash, between the Total Building Solution Qld Bears and the Barambah Painting Contractors Bears, was a hard fought and very physical game, with several time-outs for injuries.
Both sides peppered the nets with goal attempts but only one slotted home, by Total Building Solution Qld Bears’ Hayden Rennie midway in the first half.
But Barambah Painting Contractors Bears didn’t give up and went within centimetres of equalising late in the game.
Total Building Solution Qld Bears coach Sarah Vanderkolk was full of praise for her team, saying they had “fought all year” to make it into the Grand Final.
They went into the semi-finals in third spot on the ladder and only earned their Grand Final berth after surviving a penalty shootout 2-0 against the Kingaroy Joinery Redbacks last Thursday.
In the U12/13s Grand Final, the minor premiers Hair Elegance Redbacks overcame the King Air Redbacks 2-1 after King Air led early in the match.
In the U12/13s Consolation Cup, Kingaroy Accounting & Tax Redbacks overwhelmed The Mad Gamer Panthers 7-2 in a high-scoring game.
