The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will conduct a planned burn within Benarkin State Forest in the Cherry Creek Road area on Monday (September 1), weather permitting.
As a result, smoke may be seen in the Blackbutt and Benarkin areas.
A QPWS spokesman said smoke can decrease visibility on local roads so it was important that motorists drove safely to the conditions.
“The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires. The fire will also provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration,” the spokesman said.
“This burn is part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program undertaken by the QPWS.
