I don’t have a lot of bowls news this week. Reason? There’s quite a bit of visiting going on and quite a few of our region’s players are away.

Rain interfered on a few days last week, too.

And to cap things off, we had internet problems around the clubs.

Still, let’s go with what we have:

Yarraman news:

This week’s major news from Yarraman was Ladies Club President’s Day, which was held on Tuesday.

A highlight of this meeting was the opportunity that it presented to honor the twenty-five years’ service of former treasurer Helen Russ.

Helen was presented with a Meritus Service Badge.

Two seniors players also received their Veteran Badges: Glenda Wolski and Alison Anderson.

The President’s Day trophy match was played in the morning – one game of 21 ends. And as is customary on these days, the winners were drawn from the cards.

They were Ros Oiglemuller, Evie Jensen, Brian Dugdell and Jan Andresen.

The Sportsman’s Prize went to Faye Simpson, Lorri Holmes, Lyn Munday and Gloria Haack.

The club will be playing Father’s Day today, with a 12:30pm start.

Kingaroy’s Two Bowl Triples Championship Final last Saturday attracted a lot of interest.

After last week’s washout, the final of the Championship finally got underway.

The game was played over a marathon 31 ends.

The team of Wayne Thatcher, Bronwyn Grant and Malcolm Macleod took to the green in threatening weather against Maree Millard, Paul Marychurch and Bob Robinson.

Team Robinson took an early lead in the first few ends and maintained that lead until end 12, when team MacLeod crept in front by 11 to 10.

With some strong play, they applied pressure and by end 20 lead by 24 to 13.

It was an arm wrestle over the last 11 ends before team MacLeod ran out convincing winners by 30 to 23.

Then on Sunday, members of Kingaroy bowls club got together to play Triples in a game sponsored by club member Dave Clinker.

The results:

  • Fred Keding, Dave Clapperton and Bob Robinson def. Charmaine MacLeod, Peggy Robinson and Col Kratzmann 18-16
  • Dave Woods, Gladys Slatter and Trevor Turner def. Evelyn Taylor, Maree Millard and Malcolm MacLeod 25-15
  • Marj Moore, Des Richards and Beryl Woods def. Briggitte Kung, Dave Barwick and Richie Patterson 24-17
  • Graham Dean, Alan Rogerson and Alan Irwin def. Robbie Johnson, Merv Wolski and Val Jeppesen 21-18

Nanango news:

Nanango had internet problems, so news from them until next week.

Esk news:

Esk has had bad luck with the weather these past couple of weeks.

Torrential rain over the previous week forced the cancellation of the social round robin last Sunday.

The next round will be played at Gatton on September 21, and Esk will play the washed out round on October 19.

The next major event for Esk is Pub Day on Tuesday, September 2.
