Roger Seccombe, the “face” of the 2014 South Burnett Relay For Life, has been profiled this week as one of Cricket Queensland’s “Magnificent 7” volunteers from around the State.
Cricket Queensland decided to profile seven volunteers from grassroots cricket to coincide with the seven Sheffield Shield titles the Queensland Bulls have won.

Question 1. How long have you been involved in cricket?
- Played senior cricket for Wide Bay region for 30 years, including 88 centuries
- Made Qld Country Colts for four years, Qld Colts 1961 and Qld Country in 1960
- Secretary Kingaroy, South Burnett and Wide Bay for 12 years
- President of Biggenden Cricket Association for two years
- President of South Burnett Juniors for two years
- Groundsman at Kingaroy juniors for 10 years
- 17 years in junior club and representative coaching
- Life member of Wide Bay, Kingaroy and South Burnett Cricket associations
Question 2. What is your favourite cricketing memory?
- My first century as a 17-year-old in the Biggenden A-Grade Competition then making another the following week and backing it up with two more at country week.
Question 3. What motivates you to volunteer?
- I came from a family of five boys and our dad used to coach us how to play the game. Where ever I continued to play there were always volunteers helping me learn the game so when I had the opportunity I thought it only right to give back.
Question 4. Any fond memories of past Shield wins?
- Watching the first Shield win in 1994-95 on the sports highlights and watching Carl throwing the ball into the sky, never forget it.
Question 5. Any favourite players these days?
- Gilchrist and Symonds were great entertainers and fielders and back in my time Doug Walters.
