Kingaroy business iHear is sponsoring a Hearing Awareness Week open day on Friday (August 29) at the Lutheran Church Hall in Youngman Street.

There will be information about hearing tests, hearing aids, hearing rehabilitation and hearing protection.

The open day will run between 10:00am and 3:00pm.

Hearing Awareness Week runs from August 24-30 to raise awareness of hearing and hearing loss.

“If you’re concerned that you may be losing your hearing, tackling the problem early can improve both your hearing and your quality of life, including your relationships,” iHear audiometrist Shae Cull said.

“People who are fitted with hearing aids early are likely to get more benefit from them than those who put up with hearing loss for years before seeking help.

“It can take up to 15 years for people who clearly have hearing loss to get tested – a key reason for those long years in denial is the stigma of hearing loss.”

Shae said regular hearing screening was recommended from age 55.
