Toowoomba Regional Council is seeking nominations for its 2015 Australia Day awards.

Organising Committee chairperson Cr Anne Glasheen said the clock was ticking.

“The deadline to nominate someone for an Australia Day Award is October 31 – so now’s the time to act,” she said.

“That may seem like plenty of time … but trust me, the time between now and then will just fly by.”

Cr Glasheen said Australia Day was an opportunity to recognise “neighbourhood heroes” who have worked tirelessly for the betterment of their community.

“These people serve as an inspiration to others and we are eager to see them acknowledged for their efforts,” Cr Glasheen said.

“If you know somebody who has stepped up in sporting endeavours, community work, artistic or cultural activities … then make sure you nominate them for an Australia Day award.”

Council is currently calling for nominations across a range of categories:

  • Citizen of the Year (both local and regional awards)
  • Young Citizen of the Year (both local and regional awards)
  • Cultural Award (local awards only)
  • Sports Award – Senior and Junior (local awards only)
  • Community Group / Event of the Year (local awards only)
  • Citizen of the Year – Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander – Toowoomba Regional Award only

“We have an electronic form that can be filled out very easily, so once you hit the submit button all the details come through to the judging committees,” Cr Glasheen said.

Nomination forms are also available at TRC customer service centres, libraries and from regional Community Liaison Officers.
