South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann has welcomed today’s announcement of Federal Assistance Grants to local councils.
“We were told we would be getting about $100,000 less this year, and had already budgeted for that,” the Mayor said.
“But it appears we’ve received around $42,000 more than we had first expected, which is good news.”
The latest grants were announced by the Federal Government:
- Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council – $552,669 (inc. $51,664 for roads)
- Gympie Regional Council – $5,226,472 (inc. $1,750,609 for roads)
- South Burnett Regional Council – $7,103,699 (inc. $2,126,972 for roads)
- Toowoomba Regional Council – $16,289,555 (inc. $6,063,112 for roads)
Councils can spend the general purpose component on their own local priorities, including infrastructure, health, recreation, environment, employment.
Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss said councils would also receive federal funding under the Roads to Recovery program, and would be eligible for further assistance from the new Bridges Renewal program, an expanded Black Spot and Heavy Vehicle program and the new National Stronger Regions program.
