August 16, 2014

I said last week that August would be interesting, and the month got off to a really great start.

This weekend will be good, too, if the weather holds.

But the Weather Bureau are tipping rain for Saturday and some showers on Sunday as I write this, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

In the meantime, though, here’s a rundown of last week’s activities:

* * *

Yarraman news:

On Saturday, Nanango played Yarraman in their monthly self-selected triples clash in Nanango; and on Sunday, Nanango combined with Yarraman to send a contingent of forty players to Kallangur in Brisbane for an inter-club match in what now looks like being an annual event.

The match – Fours – was Yarraman-Combined versus Kallangur, and they had a ball!

First up, everyone enjoyed a great breakfast on the arrival of the coach. This was followed by a game of 21 ends, then a roast lunch before heading home (after checking out the gaming machines, of course).

Four Yarraman teams won their games, and there were some very close matches.

The speed of the Kallangur green tested a few of the visitors. Yarraman’s greens sometimes run around 14 seconds, but according to some bowlers they estimated Kallangur at 19 plus.

The winning teams were:

  • Neil Johnston, Bob Hall, Henry Bliesner and Alison Anderson won 23-19
  • Kev Profke, Sue Tucker, Sharon Yeates and Lynn Halliday won 23-18
  • Brian Havell, Merv Fitch, Ben Pratap and Arthur Smith won 23-13
  • Glen Yeates, Graham Heaton, Kay Dugdell and Eunice Smith won 27-16

Non winners were:

  • Athol Jensen, Bev Profke, Terri Silcox and Lew Saunders 16-20
  • Bill Holmes, George Wolski, Di Currell and Woody Hammond 16-21
  • Daphne Stewart, Trevor George, Glenda Wolski and Joe Aglizzo 3-61
  • Horst Myer, Doreen Fitch, Evelyn Jensen and Owen Smith 8-23
  • Brian Dugdell, Rob Douglass, Kerry Knowles and Nathan Wood 23-26
  • Neil Currell, Lorri Holmes, Gloria Anderson and Christie Wood 13-29

On Wednesday, in the Ladies Club Championships A Grade Singles Final, Kay Dugdell defeated Jenny Moore 25-11.

And in the Ladies Triples Championship, Helene Johnson, Bev Profke and Di Currell defeated Gloria Anderson, Glenda Wolski and Lola Harper 21-19.

Finally – in social play – in a game of 18 ends with conditions 2 for and end and 3 for win:

  • Ivy and Roy Wrembeck and Eunice Smith def. Daphne Stewart, Leo Robinson and Eileen Elliott 30-10
  • Neil Currell, John Moore and Nev Lawrence def. Brian Dugdell, Ron Lucas and Horst Myer 19-14

On Thursday in Triples and Pairs, the chance of rain didn’t stop a good roll-up.

Conditions of play were six points for a win and one point for each end won, and the winners on the day were Dave Woods, Lindy Clutterbuck and Hugh Harrison with 17 points.

The results:

  • Dave Woods, Lindy Clutterbuck and Hugh Harrison def. Peter Neilsen, Bob Bougoure and Ben Pratap 18-8
