There were just three points in it but they were enough to bring the South Burnett Saints’ nine-game winning streak in the AFL Darling Downs Division 2 competition to an end on Saturday afternoon in Dalby.
The Saints were ahead of the Swans at every change except when it counted … at the full-time whistle.
The final score was 13.8-(86) to 13.5 (83).
At half-time, South Burnett was ahead seven goals to five.
Dalby had a strong third quarter, finishing neck-and-neck with the Saints: 9.6 (60) to 10.4 (64).
The Swans continued pressing on in the last, scoring four majors to the South Burnett’s three.
South Burnett goals were kicked by Ty Snow (4), Brad Edwards (3), Adam Bowater (2), Paul Pressnell (2), Clinton Brown and Keiran Snow.
University had a strong win over Highfields, 12.10 (82) to 3.1 (19), which has lifted them back into the number 1 position on the Division 2 ladder, two points ahead of Saints.
South Burnett has a bye next weekend.
NB. The Saints’ only other loss this season, against Coolaroo in Round 4, was also by just three points.
