Col Anderson and Ross Mackay, from the Taabinga Rotary Club … collecting donations of foodstuffs, clothes and personal items at the South Burnett Enterprise Centre for drought relief

July 21, 2014

There’s no need to tell South Burnett farmers the drought is still biting hard, and with predictions of an El Nino around the corner, there’s not a lot of good news on the horizon.

But the Rotary Club of Taabinga, in conjunction with AgForce and fellow Rotary clubs in Mooloolaba, Toowong, Brisbane Airport, Woombye-Palmwoods and Karana Downs, is trying to supply a little bit of hope and support to the local farming families that are doing it tough.

Members have opened an appeal for donations of

  • Tinned foods
  • Non-perishable food, including pasta, spaghetti and tea bags
  • Clothes, particularly working clothes such as jeans, work shirts, winter jumpers etc
  • Personal items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, hair shampoo and conditioner, nappies

NB. At this stage scarves or toys are not needed.

Donated items may be dropped off at the Rotary storage shed at the South Burnett Enterprise Centre, 6 Cornish Street, Kingaroy, which will be manned by volunteers on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:00am-noon (until the end of September).

Taabinga Rotary will also have a drop-off point at Kingaroy Shoppingworld from next Monday (July 28) for a week.

Donations can also be left at the National Australia Bank branch in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy or pick-ups can be arranged by contacting Trevor Watkins by email.

Cash donations for the appeal can also be posted to the Secretary, Rotary Club of Taabinga, PO Box 371, Kingaroy 4610. Cheques should be made out to the Rotary Club of Taabinga.
