My column is a little later than usual this week due to technical glitches (not at my end) and I apologise to any readers who were put out by its slightly later-than-usual appearance.

I think one of Murphy’s new laws should be that the Internet is always reliable except when you need it to be.

But Kingaroy heads up this week’s bulletin – and they’ve certainly had a very busy week or two:

Kingaroy news:

Last weekend, 22 teams from throughout South East Queensland converged on Kingaroy to take part in the Annual Open Men’s Fours Winter Carnival.

Kingaroy turned on typical winter weather with frost evident on both days play.

But as the days progressed the weather warmed up and the conditions were excellent.

The competition comprised all teams playing 5 games of 18 ends. with the winners decided by the amount of games won plus the amount of ends won.

The winners were Bribie Island/North Rockhampton players, who went through the weekend undefeated: Geoff Baldwin, Neville Crocker, Peter Hughes and Greg Hoath – 5 wins, 59 ends

Runners-up were the Moore Park Beach bowlers: B. Beynon, J. Jardine, I. McCracken and F. Riggio – 4 wins, 48 1/2 ends.

And in third place was Mooloolaba: Peter Worth, Greg, Breitkreutz, Tim Quinn and Troy Somerville – 3 wins, 1 draw, 47 1/2 ends.

Coming in fourth was the best of the local teams: Paul Geritz, Errol Young, Malcolm MacLeod and Phil Kemp with 3 wins, 52 1/2 ends.

And another Kingaroy team was close behind: Dave Barwick, Dave Clapperton, Bruce Johnston and Richie Patterson – 3 wins, 50 ends.

Yarraman news:

A lot of players are building up their frequent bowling points and have been away playing at Oakey, Toogoolawah, Wondai and other clubs.

Finally – on the blackboard – next Saturday is the Yarraman/Nanango rotational triples clash at Yarraman.

And on Sunday, August 10 a busload of Nanango and Yarraman players are off to Kallangur for their annual visit. The bus leaves Nanango at 6:30am and arrives just in time for breakfast.
