A new fishing tournament series designed to appeal to family anglers of all ages will be launched at Lake Boondooma in September.

The Austackle Bluefin Freshwater Fishing Series, organised by Country Fishing Classics, will be a “catch and release” family fishing tournament.

It will be run across four rounds with the grand final to be held at Bjelke-Petersen Dam:

  • Round 1 (Sept 6-7) – Boondooma Dam – Bass, Golden Perch, Saratoga, Eel-Tailed Catfish
  • Round 2 (Nov 1-2) – Mary River – Bass, Saratoga, Eel-Tailed Catfish
  • Round 3 (Jan 17-18) – Bjelke-Petersen Dam – Bass, Golden Perch, Silver Perch, Eel-Tailed Catfish
  • Round 4 (Feb 28 – Mar 1) – Paradise Dam – Bass, Barramundi, Golden Perch, Eel & Fork-Tailed Catfish
  • Grand Final (April 18-19) – Bjelke-Petersen Dam – Bass, Golden Perch, Silver Perce, Eel-tailed Catfish

All major prizes will be won by random draw which means that everyone stands an equal chance of winning one of the major prizes on offer, including two boat and trailer packages supplied by Bluefin Boats.

Country Fishing Classics said if these series prove popular they will expand the concept into other country areas.

“To encourage family affordability and involvement, entry fees have been kept as low as possible.” a CFC spokesman said.

“A $5 per adult entry ‘early bird’ discount will be available to all senior anglers who register and pay in full at least four weeks in advance of the competition date.”

Anglers will be allowed to fish from the shore, a kayak or a boat, and will be able to use bait or lures.

And there’s no need for boats to be fitted with a live well as there will be a “photograph and release” section.
