The Redbacks didn’t stop trying but were no match for the top-of-the-table Saints
What goes up …

July 13, 2014

The South Burnett Saints continued their domination of the 2nd Division Darling Downs AFL competition on Sunday with a clinical demolition of cellar dwellers Warwick at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy.

The Saints – elevated into the No 1 spot on the ladder after last weekend’s default by University – defended their goal square ruthlessly, only allowing in two goals and one behind for the whole game.

One of the hardest workers on the field was the volunteer looking after the scoreboard, as the South Burnett methodically racked up 35 goals.

The final score was 35.22 (232) to just 2.1 (13).

Warwick scored their first goal in the first quarter, and there was a big burst of applause from spectators when they booted home their second late in the last quarter.

South Burnett goalscorers were  Adam Bowater (8), Joshua Miller (6), Thomas Fowler (5), Brad Edwards (4), Jordan Pressnell (2), Braeden Snow (2), Ty Snow (2), Barwoo Fisher, Keiran Snow, Jeffrey Trezise, Will Reid, Brent Snow and Daniel Rogers.

It was a big weekend of football for Barwoo Fisher, who was playing his first game with the Saints in 2014. Fisher also starred in the Murgon Mustangs’ defeat of Kingaroy in rugby league on Saturday afternoon.

South Burnett Saints’ U14 player Keegan Wright was this week named the No 2 player in the official player rankings in the McDonald’s Shield competition after kicking 31 goals so far this season.

Another Saints’ goal … you can’t miss from this distance!
