FLASHBACK: The 2013 Dexter Breed Show at Nanango Showgrounds

July 11, 2014

Team penning is returning to Nanango for the first time in more than a decade as part of the Nanango Show Society’s third annual Lifestyle Expo this weekend.

In team penning, a group of three riders must cut out three beasts – marked with coloured ribbons – from a herd of 21 cattle and then pen them at the end of the yard.

The competition will run all day Saturday, with Junior (16 years and under) and Senior (17 years and over) sections.

Spectators are more than welcome to watch the fun.

Show Society spokesperson Amy Wicks said 67 open teams had nominated and 17 junior teams, so there will be lots of action in the ring.

The Lifestyle Expo – which targets hobby farmers and smaller landholders – will also feature the annual Queensland Dexter Breeds Show and the Queensland Alpaca “Colourbration” Show (on both Saturday and Sunday).

A range of alpaca fleeces will also be on display.

Stalls and a canteen will be operating on Saturday.

Entry is free.
