It’s been a bit of a chilly winter around the region this last week – sunny days but very, very cool nights and the occasional frost in some places to keep the greenkeepers worried.
Still, the weather doesn’t seem to have deterred keen bowlers and there have been good roll-ups for lots of games.
Most clubs are close to tidying up their Club Championship matches at the moment, and I have the results of several of these for you this week.
So let’s jump right in:
* * *
Yarraman news:
The Yarraman Men’s and Ladies clubs caught up on their club championships this week.
In the Mixed Doubles championship – a quarter-final – Bill and Lorri Holmes defeated John and Jenny Moore 18-15.
This win put Bill and Lorri into a semi-final against Neil and Di Currell, in a real nail-biter of a match that wound up turning into a battle of the long-enders.
Bill and Lorri were away comfortably until end 14 when a five by the Currells evened things up a bit.
The pressure was on from there, though, with the score at 20-all by end 20.
The final end went to a measure, with only inches – or should I say millimetres – in it.
But in the end the Currells triumphed, narrowly taking the match 21-20.
The other half of the draw are now dragging the chain, with one quarter-final still to be played.

The Ladies B Singles final was also a very close affair, with Jenny Moore defeating Alison Anderson 25-23.
And in the Men’s Bowls – Mixed Pairs:
- Neil and Di Currell def. Daphne Stewart and Ron Lucas 25-23
- Neil Johnston and Yvonne Schultz def. Robyn Diercke and David Douglass 29-12 (that was a much better game than the score shows)
In the early rounds of the Men’s Pairs, Neil Johnston and Christie MacLeod defeated Bill Holmes and Kev Profke 22-10.
This was a great game to watch: Neil won quite a few ends with his last bowl.
