Murgon Hospital will undergo a $650,000 facelift over the next few months.
The extensive refurbishment will start on July 21 and is expected to last until mid-November.
The hospital will remain open throughout the renovations but some patients may have to be transferred to other facilities at times.
The refurbishment will include the removal of asbestos from the interior section of the main building and the installation of new ceilings, insulation and air-conditioning in the ward.
Interior painting, improvements to the reception office, upgrades to two bathrooms and new curtains and railings will also be carried out across the hospital.
The work is a part of the $50.6 million backlog and remedial maintenance program currently underway across the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service region.
“Building works will be undertaken in four stages to ensure that the hospital remains operational through the refurbishment,” DDHHS Principal Maintenance Co-ordinator Lee Hunter said.
“There will, however, be changed access to the hospital. Signs will be provided to help guide patients and visitors during the building works.”
Murgon Hospital director of nursing Julie Kelly said the works would result in improved patient comfort and staff working conditions.
“The works will result in better heating and cooling provided by the new air-conditioning system, as well as new bathroom facilities,” Ms Kelly said.
“These works will also enable future projects to further improve the flow and movement across the hospital.”
Ms Kelly said the hospital’s bed capacity could be impacted while the work was being undertaken.
“Some patients may be required to be transferred to another hospital or facility for the duration of their care.”
Information brochures will be available from Murgon Hospital reception and from the Principal Co-ordinator Maintenance on 0457-805-712 or (07) 4699-8712.
