Kumbia members and visitors had a very enjoyable day of fellowship and productivity on Saturday (June 14) when they created pretty chenille bags under the tutorship of Elaine Ballin from Maidenwell.

They are looking forward to another such day on July 8 when Catherine Woodham will show us the way to turn a plain white silk scarf into a thing of beauty.

If there are any ladies out there who would like to join with us on that day, please phone Marian on (07) 4164-5578 by July 1 so we can order a plain scarf for you to paint.

It hasn’t been all play as a crew of four cut sandwiches – and then Val Smith and Marian Mudra sold the sandwiches and hot drinks – to people who attended the Lucas dairy herd reduction sale on a drizzly cold day.

Mollie Kratzmann and Marian then held a stall at the Kumbia Hall Market Day, which is held on the 5th Saturday when one comes along.

The next Market Day will be on August 30 and Anne Beil, (07) 4163-6548, is always looking for new stallholders.

International Officer Catherine Woodham has contacted the Kumbia State School with information on the QCWA/ANZ school competitions.

We hope to receive some great entries spurred on by the prospect of the generous ANZ prizes they can win if their entry is successful at State judging, which happened last year.

Entries need to be completed by July 18.

The Branch has been continuing its fundraising efforts to purchase a bladder scanner for the Kingaroy Hospital.

We are currently posting letters to many clubs around the Kingaroy area asking for donations to help meet the current shortfall of $3900.

But we have been overjoyed by a donation of $2000 from the Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Sub Branch and $500 from Quota towards this project, and with support from a few more clubs we’re certain the target will be reached.

What a wonderful example of what a community can do if they work together!

In other news:

  • Members have knitted or crocheted 42 poppies which have now been sent off to the organisers of 1000s of poppies to mark the centenary of Anzac Day next year.
  • Kumbia will be the venue for a Cycle Queensland event on Saturday (June 21), with the Kumbia QCWA members making the lunches for their workers and running a tea, coffee and cake stall. Hopefully the public will turn out to watch these elite cyclists pedal their way around Kumbia and district.

Kumbia QCWA meets at 9:30am on the first Tuesday of each month and we are always happy to see any ladies in the area who find they can come along for a couple of hours of fellowship.
