The State Government is yet to receive an application from Cherbourg Council in regards to the future of its alcohol management plan.
A report in today’s Australian newspaper says only two Queensland Aboriginal councils – Aurukun and Lockhart River – have indicated they want their alcohol management plans to remain.
The report suggests the remaining communities, which have either a total ban or restrictions on alcohol sales in place, were pushing for changes through the government review.
However, a spokesman for Aboriginal Affairs Minister Glen Elmes confirmed today no application had been received as yet from Cherbourg.
southburnett.com.au understands consultations both within the Cherbourg community and with the South Burnett Regional Council are continuing before any application is submitted.
