For the second year in a row tiny Tanduringie State School near Maidenwell has taken out the South Burnett Readers’ Cup.

Teams of young readers from across the region gathered in the Kingaroy State School library today to test their memories and comprehension skills.

A total of 75 students from Coolabunia, Kingaroy, Kumbia, Taabinga, Tanduringie, Wondai and Yarraman State Schools took part in the event, which challenges young readers to answer questions about books they have read.

They had just 45 seconds to write down the correct answer.

Kingaroy State School teacher / librarian Julie Boyle said Tanduringie Team 1 finished with 43 points out of a possible 50 and would now head down to Brisbane to compete in the finals of the competition in September.

Tied for second place were Kumbia Team 1 and Taabinga Team 1, both with 39 points.
