Two former South Burnett rugby league players have been selected in the Queensland State of Origin squad which aims to level the series in Game 2.

Former Cherbourg Hornet Willie Tonga – now a Parramatta Eel – has been recalled to the squad to join ex-Kingaroy Red Ant Chris McQueen (South Sydney).

The squad for Game 2 was announced on Monday night.

Tonga was born in Canberra, and lived for a while in Cootamundra and La Perouse before his family moved to Cherbourg where he played for the Hornets as a junior.

He started playing NRL in 2002.

In 2004, Tonga was named the Dally M centre of the year, played for Queensland in State of Origin and was part of the Canterbury Bulldogs’ Premiership winning side.

In 2005, he made his debut for Australia in the Tri-Nations campaign.

Tonga also played Origin in 2009-10.
