South Burnett Saints captain Adam Bowater has been named captain of the AFL Darling Downs team which will take on the QAFL Amateurs in a rep match in Warwick on Saturday (June 7).

The QAFL Amateurs side consists of players from the QAFA competition – south-east Queensland’s amateur AFL competition. It includes teams from the northern suburbs of Brisbane, Gold Coast and Ipswich.

Regional Manager Keith Webb said selectors were extremely pleased with the quality of the playing group selected to represent the Darling Downs.

“It represents a good mix of youth, experience, versatility, size and pace,” he said.

“It’s also very pleasing that we have a number of players that are Darling Downs born and bred, which speaks volumes of the efforts by many in developing local DD talent.”

Webb said the level of enthusiasm from players in representing their region had been overwhelming.

“It gives us great confidence that the 22 selected players will gel well together and be committed to executing our game plan,” he said.

Coach Nick Barker said he was thrilled to have Bowater on board as captain.

“In Adam we know have someone who is great leader of men, respected and will lead by example out on the ground,” Webb said.

“Bowater is an experienced campaigner, he has played a lot of footy with Mooroolbark in the Eastern Football League in Victoria and has been a standout for the (South Burnett) Saints for the last two seasons.”

The match will be played at 2:30pm on Saturday at Reddies Oval in Warwick.
