Flashing “school zone” lights will be installed at Taabinga State School this week to improve safety for students.
Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said the flashing lights had been one of her priorities.
“The school crossing from Taabinga SS, across the D’Aguilar Highway is such a dangerous spot. Trucks and cars often don’t slow down and this has created a real safety hazard for the community,” Mrs Frecklington said.
“Now that the flashing lights are being installed, they will go a long way in reminding drivers they are approaching a school zone and need to slow down immediately.”
Earlier this year, Kingaroy police also identified the Taabinga school zone on the D’Aguilar Highway as an area of concern because of the high volume of traffic in the area.
Mrs Frecklington said the State Government had committed $10 million over four years to install flashing light signs at more than 300 school zones.
