Cherbourg wants your rubbish! Boxes, paper, cans, tins, polystyrene foam and all recyclable goods … except glass.
This is because Cherbourg has built the South Burnett region’s first – and only – recycling plant.
The town’s council hopes to employ many people at the facility in coming years if everything goes to plan, but initially it needs businesses and people to drop off their recyclable waste at the site.
The facility is located on the third turn to the left (just after the 60km speed sign) on Cherbourg Road.
Clean waste can be left in the blue hopper or within the wire bins provided.
Manager Andrew Beckett said the plant had huge potential.
Agreements are being established with South Burnett Regional Council and local businesses.
Start-up costs were sponsored by Indigenous Business Australia after a feasibility study and regional waste audit were done.
These showed the plant could be profitable on cardboard alone, but it wants much more.
“We’re very excited,” Andrew said. “We want everybody to support it.”
