A truck driver escaped injury but more than a dozen cattle died after a double-decker stock truck rolled on the D’Aguilar Highway in Yarraman about 4:00am today.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Barr-Smith Street on the southern outskirts of town.

The B-Double was travelling south but overturned as it approached the bridge.

A police spokesman said no other vehicles were involved.

SES volunteers, fire crews and Blackbutt police attended the scene. Cattle injured in the rollover were euthanased at the site. Others that freed themselves from the rig had to be rounded up from local backyards.

The highway was briefly blocked but diversions were quickly put into place to direct traffic around the incident.
