A recall of a popular model of Remington rifle could affect more than 20,000 firearms in Australia.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission announced yesterday that Remington Model 700™ and Model Seven™ Rifles with X-Mark Pro® (XMP®) triggers, manufactured from May 1, 2006 to April 9, 2014 were affected.
The manufacturer has determined that some Model 700 and Model Seven rifles with XMP triggers could, under certain circumstances, unintentionally discharge.
A Remington investigation has determined that some XMP triggers might have excess bonding agent used in the assembly process.
The rifles were sold across Australia.
The ACCC has advised owners to stop using the rifle. Any unintended discharge has the potential to cause injury or death.
Do not attempt to diagnose or repair recalled rifles.
Remington proposes to replace the triggers in all affected rifles free of charge.
Further details of the trigger replacement program will be made available through www.recalls.gov.au shortly. For further information visit xmprecall.remington.com
