One of the highlights of the Yarraman calendar has always been their Pines Carnival, held on the first weekend in May.
They come from everywhere for that one , but the fact that it is not a long weekend anymore upset a lot of plans by clubs spread around south east Queensland and the Northern Rivers.
Result? Entries were well down this year.
All the same, there were two games on Saturday for the Brian Profke and IGA trophies, and two games on Sunday sponsored by Yalumba.
Here’s how things went:

Yarraman news:
On Saturday there were two games or 21 ends, with ends plus total scores to decide the winners.
They were:
- Winners: Neil Johnston, George Wolski, John Moore and Yvonne Schultz – two wins 81
- Runners up: Nev Lawrence, Bob Hall, Woody Hammond and John Beattie – 65
- Maurie Young, Bett Wallace, Lorri Holmes and Kerry Knowles – 61
- Alex Barsby, Robyn Barsby, David Malpas and Bev Henness – 59
- Helene Johnson, Neil Currell, Di Currell and Bev Profke – 57
- Merv Fitch, Brian Profke, John Moore and Charlie Ogilvie – 47
- Warren Arthur, Delvin Powys, Doris Drew and Sylvie Fanning – 41
And on Sunday, in the second round of the Pines Carnival – the Yalumba Trophies – winners almost needed a shopping trolly.
There were two games of 18 ends, with the winners decided by ends plus total scores.
- Winners: Neil Johnston, George Wolski, Horst Myer and John Moore – two wins 61
- Runners up: Roy Latham, Col Rewald, Barry Pratt and Dick Sloper – two wins 60
- Warren Arthur, Delvin Powys, Doris Drew and Sylvie Fanning – one win 61
- Goomeri Team – 57
- Kev Raffin, Graham Heaton, Peter Neilsen and Paul Marychurch – 56
- Brian Dugdell, Neil Currell, Di Currell and Bev Profke – 48
- Merv Fitch, Brian Profke, John Moore and Charlie Ogilvie – 47
- Daphne Stewart, Rob Douglass, Jim LeCocq and Robyn Diercke – 45
- Terry Kilford, Del Lane, Pappy and Greg Alllen – 36
- Kerry Knowles, Lorri Holmes, Todd and Sandra Currell – 28
On Wednesday the Ladies Club were able to stage four of their Club Championship matches:
- Lorri Holmes defeated Ivy Wrembeck 25-10
- Jenny Moore defeated Di Currell 25-11
- Eunice Smith defeated Sandra Currell 26-11
- Glenda Wolski defeated Robyn Diercke 25-8
The men staged one of their quarter-finals of the A Grade singles games too, and Brian Dugdell defeated John Moore 26-16.
And in a social game of triples which helped to fill the green, Eileen Elliott, John Beattie and Horst Meyer defeated Rita Young, Yvonne Schultz and Lola Harper 13-11.

What’s been happening in Kingaroy?
Last Thursday was Felipe Munoz and Beryl Woods Trophy Day.
It was Pairs and Triples, with winners determined by the team with the lowest winning score.
- Winners: Lyle Dascombe, Geoff Clutterbuck and Ray Maclaren – 20
- Runners up: Robbie Johnson, Peter Neilsen and Kev Raffin – 26 on a countback

Last Friday in Scroungers, the top scorers were Lew Saunders 55, Trevor George 54 and Ben Pratap 51.
And in the Men’s Social last Tuesday, with conditions of play one for an end and four for a win:
