The Kingaroy State Emergency Service will join thousands of organisations around the nation to mark the 25th anniversary of National Volunteer Week in Australia (May 12–18).
This year’s campaign theme – “Celebrate the Power of Volunteering” – is all about appreciating and understanding the work of volunteers across the nation.
The SES recognises the valuable contribution of its small corp of 13 volunteers here in Kingaroy. Without them we would not be able to service the community of Kingaroy and surrounding localities through the provision of Emergency, Disaster, Agency and Community Support.
“National Volunteer Week enables us to dedicate and honour our volunteers for the time that they so selflessly give up to us,” Kingaroy SES group leader Peter Verbakel said.
“On this 25th National Volunteer Week, we join with other organisations to celebrate our exceptionally skilled volunteers, who are an asset to our community. This is their day.”
Mr Verbakel said individuals could help celebrate National Volunteer Week by thanking an SES volunteer when they see one out and about.
“Perhaps you might like to volunteer your skills, aptitudes and time to the SES?” he said.
“We are looking for dedicated, committed, selfless, community-minded people.
“If you can see yourself contributing to the safety and security of your own community, then why not enquire about joining the other volunteers?”
