It’s been great to see the rain, hasn’t it?
The greens and grounds are looking great. But we could do with a little more rain again soon.
We all know it will inevitably come … so while we wait, here’s what’s been happening in regional bowls over the last week.
Once again, we’ll start with Yarraman first:
* * *
Yarraman news:
Yarraman’s top brass jostled on the green last Saturday for the first round match in the A singles championship.
This attracted quite a gallery, with three of the Executive Committee on the green.
President Kev Profke was marker for the clash between Immediate past President Brian Dugdell and Treasurer Kerry Knowles.
Knowles won the toss and scored a singles on the first end – but that was the only time that he was in front for the match.
Towards the end of the match, though, Knowles looked to be rallying when he won several ends with good scores. But he finally wilted, and Dugdell won 25-12.
There were three other A singles matches on at the same time so the gallery got their money’s worth that day.
- John Moore defeated Horst Meyer 25-16
- George Wolski thrashed John Beattie 25-9, and …
- Neil Johnston scored a close one, beating Merv Fitch 25-21 in a thriller.
A couple of Men’s A singles were played on Thursday too:
- Neil Johnston defeated George Wolski 25-13
- Brian Dugdell defeated Kev Profke 25-15
There was also a bit of a boil-over in the Ladies Fours Championship Final, when Ivy Wrembeck, Lorri Holmes, Eunice Smith and Kay Dugdell defeated last year’s District champions Helene Johnson, Bev Profke, Di Currell and Robyn Diercke 17-15.
The match went down to the wire and was decided by the last bowl.
In a Ladies B Singles match, Jenny Moore defeated Yvonne Schultz 25-21.
And in the Ladies Club social on Wednesday:
- Leo Robinson and Glenda Wolski defeated Rita Young and Alison Anderson 29-14
- Lola Harper and Roy Wrembeck defeated Gloria Anderson and Margaret Willoughby 21-15
