Tyrone Murray was giving away thousands of dollars in free haircuts before he met Gina Oberle.

The Murgon Mustangs rugby league five-eighth had a fantastic natural talent for doing tracks, and showed it on anybody who wanted a haircut.

Any hairdresser would have charged more than $100 for most of them but Tyrone just liked doing it.

Friends would come round to his Cherbourg home and they’d also bring friends and children to have their locks trimmed and styled.

Then hairdresser Gina directed Tyrone to the internet and showed him what salons were charging for the same work.

Today, Tyrone works for Gina from Wednesday to Friday within a Cherbourg salon they have started.

He also works at her Original Hair By Gina which is located at Murgon’s PCYC on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Tyrone is doing his apprenticeship through the salon and training is provided to him through Nurunderi TAFE at Cherbourg.

Gina said he was naturally talented and the training was guiding him.

“He’s very highly skilled,” she said.

Their Cherbourg salon in the Bunya Trees Room also does women’s cuts and will soon be equipped for Tyrone to wash and colour hair.

Tyrone enjoys the study and uses the internet to gain extra inspiration and knowledge.

He admits he’s living the dream.

“I’m doing something that I love and earning a living,” he said.

“I never thought this would happen.”
