Easter is already upon us and Anzac Day isn’t far away either.

For bowlers, this is a great time of year to get in some extra time on the greens.

The weather’s pretty great too.

Anyway, here’s what’s been happening in bowls around our region this week:

Kilcoy news:

Some listeners phoned in with the sad tale that they did not hear our program last week and wanted to know how the Pub Day went

Well, you can read all about it – and even see some photos of the happy Kilcoy winners and runners-up – in South Burnett Bowls News.

Esk news:

Esk have been building up their frequent bowling points lately with trips away to Woongoolba, Gatton, Toogoolawah and Lowood.

Next week they’re heading back to Gatton for the next round of Round Robin.

Despite the rain, they also managed to complete more Championship games – and there were a couple of surprising results.

  • In the Ladies Singles, Pearlie Jenkins defeated Vicki Cameron 26-13
  • In the Open Triples, Pearlie Jenkins, Ted Jenkins and Doug Laidlaw defeated Laurie Thomson, Armand Leten and John Blank 35-7.
  • And in the next round of Open Triples, Vicki Cameron, Allan Cameron and Frank Hussey defeated Pearlie Jenkins, Ted Jenkins and Doug Laidlaw 36-6.

I am told the scores did not reflect the closeness of the games.

So what’s on the program around the other clubs over the Easter break?

Well, most are taking it easy but a couple of clubs will have fairly full greens on some days.

Yarraman is looking forward to the return match of the Rotational triples clash with Nanango – it’s being held at Yarraman, and as I mentioned near the start of this week’s column, Nanango hold bragging rights at the moment

And on Sunday at Yarraman, there’ll be club select bowls at 12.30pm

But all roads will truly lead to Yarraman next Thursday – it’s Pub Day.

Murgon also have a big weekend planned: Invitational Triples on both Saturday and Sunday.

How about Anzac Day?

Well, most clubs are planning bowls on Anzac Day, so you should take a look at your clubhouse’s notice boards.

In Yarraman, it will be their big Anzac Shield match.

The State Office of Liquor and Gaming have advised that two up is legal on Anzac Day, so be prepared to place your bets.

It also looks like being a full green for the Pines Carnival in Yarraman, which runs for two days on the first weekend in May.
