A project dreamed up by the Catholic Ladies at the Wondai parish – and quickly adopted by the rest of the local community – will see little shoeboxes full of good wishes being delivered to struggling local farming families.
There are now 100 shoeboxes filled to the brim at the Wondai Art Gallery waiting to be distributed to local farming families in need.
They contain non-perishable “essentials” and a heartfelt hug from the Wondai community.
Art Gallery curator Elaine Madill said the project quickly spread beyond the Catholic parish and people of all denominations – and none at all – had been eager to help.
The shoeboxes will be distributed via Murgon’s ‘Eat Dirt Drought” network.
“A little something from the community of Wondai just to let you know we are thinking of you.
When you wake in the morning,
A hug starts the day.
So the hugs with this shoebox
We send out to stay.
God bless and peace be with you.”
