Arnold Murray … elected to fill the vacancy on Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council

Arnold Murray has been declared the winner of Saturday’s vote to fill a vacancy on Cherbourg Council.

Cr Murray secured 89 votes, almost double his nearest competitor, Ashley Lyle Hill, who had 45.

Other candidates were Vinnie Conlon (25 votes), Tom Langton (40) and J Emma Stewart (33).

The vacancy was caused by the death of Cr Bert Button earlier this year.

The Queensland Electoral Commission recorded 234 votes, including two informal. There are 384 people currently registered on the electoral roll at Cherbourg.
