Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington signs the inflatable car

April 10, 2014

With school holidays underway Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington is urging local residents to think of the “Fatal Five” and drive safely in the lead up to Fatality Free Friday on May 30.

Mrs Frecklington said Fatality Free Friday was a great chance for the community to take responsibility for their driving behaviour.

“Queensland’s road toll is 24 below (as at April 1) what it was this time last year, however, every death on our roads is a tragedy,” she said.

“We want to drive down the road toll even further which is why I will be making the pledge to drive safely not just on May 30 but every other day of the year. This campaign is about making a personal commitment to road safety.”

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said as part of the campaign, Queenslanders will have the opportunity to sign an inflatable car.

“Similar to last year, inflatable cars will tour the State and I’m encouraging all Queenslanders to pledge their support for Fatality Free Friday,” Mr Emerson said.

“This year people will also receive a Fatality Free Friday key to put on their key ring as a constant reminder of their personal road safety pledge. We are so pleased to support this campaign as it is another reminder for us all us to think about how we can make a difference to improve safety on our roads.

“We are working hard to drive down the road toll through campaigns like this as well as our Join the Drive campaign and investment in getting more police on the beat.”

All Queenslanders are encouraged to make their pledge, either by signing one of the inflatable cars touring the State, or online
