Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott is currently in Asia, leading a delegation to expand trade talks in the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore.

“This delegation has presented many unique opportunities to strengthen Australia’s trade relationship with government and business,” Mr Scott said.

“Our producers are creative, innovative and hungry to break into new international markets and I’ll do all I can to promote our region.”

Mr Scott said the Federal Government was “assertively pursuing trade and investment as key growth drivers” by building the relationship between Australia and the region to our north.

“It’s exciting to see all the opportunities, existing and new, and it’s very rewarding to see our products beyond Australian shores,” he said.

Mr Scott will also be visiting the largest international food tradeshow in Asia, the Food and Hotel Asia 2014 Expo in Singapore, to promote Australian produce.

“Almost 42,000 people are set to attend the expo and I’m keen to promote the Maranoa on the international stage when I address a Meat and Livestock Australia function later this week,” Mr Scott said.

“Take the beef industry as an example. The beef industry is a significant local employer with almost a quarter of Queensland’s beef enterprises located in the Maranoa with the Roma Saleyards – Australia’s largest cattle selling centre – playing an important strategic role.

“It’s vital to keep this industry moving. It supports numerous transport companies, musterers and local businesses whose livelihoods depend on the beef industry.

“This is an exciting time for our trade industry and I’m doing all I can to promote our region and products on the international stage.”
