The restarting of Unit 4 at Tarong Power Station is one step closer following the removal of the cracked rotor and its transportation to NSW for repairs.

When Stanwell employees “lifted the lid” on the mothballed Unit 4 earlier this year to inspect the turbine, cracks were detected in the rotor.

The 48.5 tonne piece of machinery has now been extracted by crane, carefully crated and transported by low-loader to Maitland for repairs.

This is expected to take several months.

The rotor will then be returned to Tarong, re-fitted and re-balanced.

Repairing the rotor is the main critical job before Unit 4 can be restarted.
