Residents in the Booie and Ellesmere areas are one step closer to gaining high-speed fixed wireless broadband.

An NBN Co spokesman said today physical construction has begun on fixed wireless broadband towers at the two locations.

These towers will join towers currently under construction at Coolabunia, Haly Creek, Kumbia, Maidenwell, Mt Wooroolin, Pimpimbudgee, Proston, Upper Yarraman and Yarraman.

In the past, NBN Co has said it takes about 12 months from the start of construction until residents and business owners can order NBN retail services from telephone or internet service providers.

NBN Co says more information will be provided to residents about how to connect as construction nears completion.

The wholesale fixed wireless service offers retail service providers download speeds of up to 25Mb per second and upload speeds of up to 5Mb per second.

These speeds will be available to internet service providers. Speeds actually achieved by end users will depend on equipment quality, software, broadband plans and how the end user’s service provider designs its network.
