South Burnett artists gathered recently at the beautiful Bunya Mountains for a four-day workshop, sponsored by an RADF grant.
Don Milner, who is a professional artist and highly qualified tutor, covered many aspects of plein air painting including wide vistas, tree studies and forest scenes.
The artists attending were working in four different mediums and Don gave demonstrations in all of these plus providing individual tuition to each student.
It was a very busy and memorable four days which also showed us how to cope with the vagaries of the weather and other factors which govern outdoor painting.
Several of us had paintings, easels and pallets blown over to land “butter side down” on the ground and some artists found that edging backwards to consider our work can end up in a tumble down the slope!
Many of the participants had never painted on site before but the beauty and energetic atmosphere of the mountains inspired everyone.
And thanks to the tutor’s excellent guidance some very nice paintings emerged from the weekend.
We will hold an exhibition of the work completed during or inspired by the project at the Kingaroy Regional Gallery during May.
This will be a wonderful opportunity for us to share our experiences with the community and our fellow artists. It is hoped that each participant will have three paintings on show.
