What’s been happening, you ask?

Well, it’s been raining – which is good weather for ducks, farmers and bowling greens but a real hazard for bowls games directors trying to satisfy club members.

In fact, this week’s rain threw a bit of a spanner in the works for club championship matches at most clubs.

Still I’m sure most people were glad to see the rain, all things considered.

Peranga news:

A big weekend at Peranga last Saturday and Sunday with their Men’s Fours Carnival.

Sixteen teams from all over South East Queensland and players from 17 clubs took part over 5 rounds with 5 points for a win and 1 for each end won.

The trophy for the overall winner was the John Wolski memorial provided by Audrey Wolski, and it was won by Alby Gibbs from Millmerran with 74 points.

Runner up was the North Dalby team, skipped by Doug Flegler with 66 points.

Third in the contest was the Yarraman side – George Wolski, Merv Fitch, Brian Dugdell and John Moore who racked up 63 and a half points.

The run-down of round winners shows the popularity of this annual event: winners came from South Toowoomba (Mick Gills); Peranga (Arnold Collins), Drayton (Arthur Telford); Crows Nest (Trevor Gillies) and Pittsworth (Graham McDonald).

Well done, Peranga – and thanks to Barry Reithmuller for his report.

Esk news:

Esk are hoping for a break in the weather because they have a trip planned to Woongoolba tomorrow.

A busload from Esk will be trying to retain the Friendship Trophy.

The next round of the social Round Robin comes up on April 27 at Gatton

Barefoot bowls on Thursday nights is also proving very popular there, though – needless to say – no barefoot bowls were held last Thursday night.
