South Burnett Regional Council has graded McLean Road at Durong, one of several roads identified by local residents earlier this year as in need of repairs, and road crews have moved on to the nearby Shellytop Road.
Cr Ros Heit said she was delighted that McLean Road had now been graded and she said local resident Simon Stretton had told her he was pleased how much wider and safer the road now was.
“The grader crew has now moved onto Shelleytop Road, a local bus route, which will take several weeks to get back to a safe standard,” Cr Heit said.
“It’s a slow process but the grader crews are methodically getting around the needy roads.
“I know the road levy is unpopular, especially in these difficult times, but it is allowing us to get many more roads fixed.
“I’d rather be unpopular than have to hear about road fatalities because of the poor state of the roads.
“There are still a lot of roads especially in the western end of the region that desperately need attention. Council is doing its best to get these roads sorted, please be patient.
“I spent today driving around some of the western roads. The corrugations in many places are very bad but it’s very rewarding to see when the roads get fixed.”
