It’s been good weather for bowling, so there’s plenty happening.

Yarraman news

The Men’s Fours final last weekend attracted a gallery – 22 all after 25 ends so a tie breaker was called by the ref.

Brian Dugdell, Neil Johnston, George Wolski, John Moore, def Kerry Knowles, Kev Profke, Rob Douglass, Leo Robinson 23-22 .

The first round of the Men’s B singles was played on an adjacent green. There was a lot of interest in that one. Ron Lucas got his act together towards the end of the game and finished up winning 25-21.

In Sunday Bowls, a score of interest was Neil Johnston, Todd Currell, Di Currell def Kev Profke, Bev Profke, Sandra Currell 12-9 over 12 ends.

Ladies Club day was on Wednesday and it was the semi-final of Ladies “4s”.

Ivy Wrembeck, Lorri Holmes, Eunice Smith and Kay Dugdell def Gloria Anderson, Lola Harper, Glenda Wolski and Yvonne Schultz 22-11.

Ivy’s team will now play Helene Johnson, Bev Profke, Robyn Diercke and Di Currell in the final next Wednesday.

In the Ladies “B”Singles (1st round), Di Currell def Margaret Willoughby 25-15.

In the Men’s “B” Singles,  Todd Currell def Dave Douglass 25-13. Todd will now play Ron Lucas in the final.

In other games: Horst Myer, John Beattie, Eileen Elliott def Nev Lawrence, Allison Anderson, Charlie Ogilvie 15-14.

There were six new, young players in Thursday night bowls. Winners: Brian Dugdell, Arthur Smith, Ashleigh Canniford def Kev Profke, Tom Clarke and Chantelle Cook, 29-9 (12 ends to 5 ends).

It was a big weekend at Kingaroy last weekend with the Men’s Singles well underway and 17 players trying to get their name on the Honour Board.

Toogoolawah News

It was Pub Day in Toogoolawah last week, always a popular tournament.

Winners over all were Gerry Mooney’s team from Woodford. Overall runners-up were  Andy Box’s Team from Blackbutt – Andy’s team had a fill-in from Toogoolawah.

1st round winners – Tony Watson’s team from Gatton; 2nd round winners – Vicki and Alan Cameron’s Team from Esk.

Saturday night bowls has been replaced by a Sunday afternoon format.  The ladies Thursday night bowls is going well.

Murgon News

Burnett clubs had a great women’s tournament at Murgon on Tuesday.

There were three games of 14 ends. Overall winners were a team skipped by Dianne Reed of Kingaroy. They ended up with a very tidy score of 3 wins plus 32.

Runner-up were the Binjour ladies – a team skipped by Pat Darlington with three wins plus 29.

Another coveted trophy was the Highest Round winner. This was won by Carol Watters’ Murgon team with 23.

Overall winners were: Dianne Reed (Kingaroy) – Skip, Lynda Cecil (Wondai), Irene Smith (Kingaroy) , Annette O’Brien (Kingaroy)

Runners Up: All Binjour ladies, Pat Darlington – Skip, Leann Pace, Maureen Guyatt, Gaile Evans

Highest Round Winner: All Murgon players, Carol Watters – Skip, Lynette Munday, Len McArthur, Joyce Rewald

The Burnett Ladies will represent the district on the Gold Coast in May, They are keen to do well so are having a trial game at Murgon on April 12. There will be two games of 18 ends, so watch this space.

In last Tuesday’s Men’s Social, Blackbutt gets a mention. Keith Carroll, Bob Ballentine, Nev Lawrence 20 def Kevin Kleinhanns, Jim Mathews, Ed Haycock 19.

In the Wednesday Ladies Social, Muriel Benfield, Di McNeilage, Sue Tucker 14 def Sylvia Fanning, Kerry Little, Evelyn Jensen 12.

Next Sunday’s Rotational Triples, sponsored by Sharron & Glen Yeates, will feature two games, 9:30am start; basket lunch.

Gayndah News

Club championships dominate the Gayndah report. In an early round of the Singles, Kevin Putney hung on to defeat the fast finishing Neville McCosker 25-20.

Last Sunday there was one game of pairs and a game of singles. In the singles, Peter Bennett gave Alan Cooper a lesson or two defeating him 25-9.

The pairs game was a lot closer: Neville McCosker and Noel Broody Kirk def Alex McColm and Gary Taylor 22-17.

Next weekend there is a big Mixed Triples carnival, which should be fun!

Kilcoy News

Today’s social bowls is welcoming new players with a sausage sizzle to start proceedings.

Tuesday is Trophy Day, sponsored by Bill and Jenny Edwards.  9:00am for a 9:30am start.

Jackpot bowls will be played on Tuesday, April 1. On that day, Pauline Lawson will play Margaret Worrall in the next Star of the Green match.
