Football South Burnett
It’s been a wonderful week for football in the South Burnett.
Not only have we been given an FFA Cup fixture to host but also the Kingaroy Junior Redbacks scored a handsome donation from Hyundai in their Goals for Grassroots promotion.
Goals for Grassroots donations to junior football clubs have been generated directly from selected Hyundai A-League match scores since 2007.
Since the inception of Hyundai Goals for Grassroots, more than 175 junior football clubs have been issued with almost $500,000 in grants. If selected clubs get $1000, then $1000 per goal their nominated team scores.
The Redback’s A-League team was obviously our much beloved Brisbane Roar.
On the weekend they played second-placed Adelaide United who were in red hot form.
The Roar came away with a 2-1 win thanks to a brace from Besart Berisha.
The win just about guarantees the Premiers Plate for Brisbane Roar but more importantly for the Kingaroy Junior Redbacks it guarantees them a total of $3000.
At the cheque presentation, Redbacks president Tom Carroll thanked Hyundai and Brisbane Roar and said the money would be used towards a much-needed amenities block.
The other big news for football in this region is the Round 3 FFA Cup tie between the 2013 Evolution Solar South Burnett Football League Premiers Nanango and 2013 Toowoomba Premier Grand Finalists, Willowburn.
The match will be played this weekend, March 15, at Tom Alford Oval, Kingaroy with a 5:00pm kick off.
There should be a great atmosphere at the game as all our clubs unite to get behind Nanango. A full canteen, barbecue and bar will be operating.
