March 1, 2014

Goodness me … it’s the first of March already. March marks the start of autumn – though it’ll be hot for awhile yet – and some of the clubs are well underway with their club championships.

Binjour is setting a good example.

So let’s start with them.

Kilcoy news:

In last Saturday’s social bowls there was a great turn up of players – 56 in all – for two games of 13 ends.

Four teams won two games each.

They were Lester Bechly’s team, Peter Stanton’s team, Greg Staniforth’s team and Dozer Bechly’s team.

Winner of the day was drawn out of the hat, and Dozer Bechly, John Dickson, Tanya Arnold and Cathy Lapthorn turned up trumps

And on Tuesday, the first of the A Singles Championships was played, with Lester Bechly defeating Dennis Bleakley 25-5.

The same day, social bowls attracted another good roll-up of 26 players. Results?

  • Pam Taylor, Tony Gray and Margaret Worrall def Jeff Weldon, Kathy Hill and Kelly Charters 24-16
  • Denis Thompson, Bert Christie and Fay Vicary def Pauline Lawson, John Worrall and Brett Kelly 36-10.

Esk news:

There’s always something happening in Esk – they have a great social calendar.

February’s Round Robin for clubs in that part of the world saw teams from Mt Crosby, Gatton, Esk and Durack-Inala playing at Durack-Inala. The next Round Robin is at Mt Crosby on 16 March.

There were also three bowl triples and pairs on Wednesday and Sunday, plus barefoot bowls every Thursday night.

Esk will be visiting Mt Crosby next week for Ladies Day, and Bribie will visit on March 9.

Esk Secretary Fay Thomson reports that the calendar is getting quite congested – surprising for this time of the year.

And yes, the club championships are under way.

Last week in the Open Pairs Allen Cameron and Rob Horkins defeated Vicki Cameron and Rob Buckworth.
