Plan to have fun but plan not to drink and drive … this is the message from Kingaroy Police ahead of the South Burnett Wine and Food in the Park Festival on Saturday week.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said as well as regular RBT patrols, a drug-testing unit would also be stationed in the area to test drivers over the March 8-9 weekend.

“There will be zero tolerance for drink or drug driving,” Snr Sgt Frank said.

He said if people planned to drink at the festival, they should leave their car at home or make other arrangements such as selecting a “designated driver” or booking a taxi.

Snr Sgt Frank said if people decided to continue partying uptown after the event it was important to keep in mind “responsible drinking”.

“Watch your mates. If they’re intoxicated send them home. Keep them out of trouble and keep them out of the pub,” he said.
