Kingaroy Police are reminding South Burnett residents to “lock it lose it”, especially when it comes to parked cars.
A police spokesman said a number of recent thefts from unlocked vehicles was a cause for concern.
He said most offenders were opportunists, searching for quick and easy targets.
“Are you car-security conscious? Is your vehicle an easy target for thieves?” he said.
Kingaroy Police urge motorists to make sure their vehicles are locked whenever unattended, even if it is parked in the driveway at home.
They are also reminding people it is an offence to leave an unattended vehicle unlocked.
“It is never a good idea to leave valuable items in clear view – for example, on the seat or console of your car – these attract offenders. If you must leave valuables in your vehicle, keep them out of sight,” the spokesman said.
“Don’t give thieves a chance. Lock up. It’s so easy with central locking found in most modern vehicles.”
Points to remember:
- Always lock doors and windows when your vehicle is unattended
- Keep all valuables out of sight
- Install an effective anti-theft device
- Secure your vehicle keys when not in use
