Kingaroy Police are urging rural property owners to make sure their tools, equipment and machinery are secure.
Property owners should be vigilant and proactive in the protection of their properties.
Most property crime can be prevented by taking some simple steps:
- Never leave keys in the ignition of machinery.
- Are your fuel tanks visible from the residence and locked, with the pumps disabled?
Rural properties often have equipment, machinery, vehicles and stock located in several unsupervised areas, making them a potential target for thieves.
Vulnerable areas on properties should be kept clear to promote good visibility and eliminate potential cover for offenders.
Engraving or marking property can also deter potential offenders.
Owners should prepare a detailed inventory, perhaps including photographs, of personal, household and farm valuables to assist with recovery in the event of theft occurring.
Being seen around the property at irregular times may also deter potential offenders, and neighbours should be asked to contact police immediately if they see anything suspicious around the property.
