The Boondooma Dam Fish Stocking and Management Association is confident the weather will be great for this year’s Yellowbelly Fishing Competition, which will be held at Lake Boondooma on February 8-9.

A spokesman said the water quality was good and the dam is fishing was at its best since recent record flood events.

The South Burnett Regional Council and the managers of the camping ground have been working hard to ensure the camping area and facilities are ready for the expected big crowd.

Ongoing support from event sponsors, both old and new, has ensured a wide range of prizes and lucky draws will be available for competitors.

This year’s event will also include a “catch and release” section for Australian Bass with cash prizes at each weigh-in as well as the usual competition format.

Food and drinks stalls will be provided by local community groups over the weekend.

Entry costs remain at $20 for adults and $5 for juniors aged 16 years and under.

Nominations will be accepted from noon on the Friday at the competition headquarters at the dam.

Competition entry fees do not include the cost of camping at the lake. For more information about camping fees and details of accommodation options,  contact the Lake Boondooma kiosk on (07) 4168-9694.

All anglers must have a current Stock Impoundment Permit. Permits can be purchased from the kiosk at Lake Boondooma or online
