Kingaroy recorded its highest ever monthly average cost for unleaded petrol in 2013, according to the RACQ’s annual Fuel Price Report for 2013 released today.

Kingaroy unleaded hit 158.4 cents per litre (cpl) in September last year.

The previous record high was 156.2 cpl in July 2008.

The cheapest month during 2013 was January when unleaded petrol in Kingaroy was 145.1 cpl.

The 2013 Kingaroy average of 152.0 cpl compares with previous annual averages of 148.4 cpl (2012), 142.3 cpl (2011), 128.7 cpl (2010) and 117.1 cpl (2009).

In comparison, the average price of unleaded in Brisbane last year was 147.9 cpl, also the highest on record and 2.5cpl more than 2012.

The highest daily price recorded in Brisbane was 165.4 cpl on July 24 and the lowest was 127.8 cpl on May 12-13.

According to the RACQ, unleaded petrol cost more in Brisbane in 2013 than in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth but was cheaper than Canberra, Hobart and Darwin.

The average price of unleaded fuel across Queensland was 154.3cpl, 4.2cpl higher than 2012.

The cheapest place to buy unleaded was Gympie which recorded an average price of 145.7cpl.

Gympie also had the cheapest diesel fuel in Queensland in 2013. At an average of 152.0 cpl it was cheaper than Brisbane (153.4 cpl).

Ipswich, Townsville, Warwick, Atherton, Maryborough, Whitsunday and the Sunshine Coast also had cheaper diesel fuel than Brisbane.

The price of diesel in Brisbane reached a five-year high daily average of 162.3 cpl in December, and a five-year high monthly average of 160.7 cpl – still substantially less than the all-time record prices for diesel recorded in 2008.

In Kingaroy, diesel hit a monthly average high of 162.0 cpl in December, and a low of 145.5 cpl in May. The yearly average of 155.0 cpl compared with 151.7 cpl (2012), 148.3 cpl (2011), 139.8 cpl (2010) and 118.5 cpl (2009).
